The problem of parking in cycle lanes

There are two types of cycle lane: Advisory and Mandatory.

Advisory lanes have a dotted line, motorists can drive in it and park in it.

Mandatory lanes have a solid line. The law used to state that motorists could not ‘use’ this lane – ie neither drive nor park in it

But this law was changed in 2016 and essentially motorists are now allowed to park in a Mandatory lane unless there are double yellow lines.

The government did not consult on the 2016 change and the Highway Code is now incorrect!
